Dragons Den Winning Proposals

Trials are an important means of measuring a medical, surgical or behavioural intervention and successful trials go on to inform or change clinical practice for the better.  In 2020, working with British Association of Urology Surgeons (BAUS), TUF decided to establish a TUF Trials Unit in order to encourage and enable more clinical research in urology.

After a rigorous multi-tiered review process the winning bid was awarded to the CHaRT team based at the University of Aberdeen and led by  Professor Graeme MacLennan and Professor James N'Dow. Urology professionals were then asked to submit proposals for consideration by the new TUF Trials Unit.

Seventeen proposals, covering a wide range of urology conditions, were received for review and seven were shortlisted to be taken forward to a Dragons’ Den panel session at the BAUS Annual Meeting (21-23 June 2021).

The assessment and Dragon’s Den panel were:

  • Professor Grant Stewart, Chair of the TUF Science & Education Committee
  • Mr Tim O’Brien, President of BAUS & Guy’s Hospital
  • Professor Caroline Moore, University College Hospital, London
  • Professor Graeme MacLennan, Centre for Healthcare Randomised Trials, University of Aberdeen
  • Professor James N’Dow, University of Aberdeen, Scotland

The two hour Dragons’ Den session involved presentations followed by a Q&A session with the expert panel.

We are delighted to announce that the winning two proposals to be taken forward to work with the TUF Trials Unit are:
