Golfers club together and raise over £16,000 at TUF’s first golf day

25 September 2019, Sayara Muthuveloe -

Keen golfers and TUF supporters joined together for The Urology Foundation’s first golf day fundraiser at the Royal Ashdown Golf Club, Surrey to help fund vital urology research and training.

Holding on to the last of the summer sun 68 golfers took to the green for a ‘shot gun’ start before the 18-hole course to raise money for The Urology Foundation at our very first golf day.

To make the day interesting the committee step up four prize hole, including ‘nearest the pin’, ‘longest drive’ and a special challenge by our sponsors Renascent which saw teams compete for the highest score across four competition holes.

The golf day ended with lunch, prize giving and silent auction. Prizes were generously donated by Waud Wine Club, Stephen Fry and trustees of The Urology Foundation.

The individuals and teams received prizes at the celebratory meal with top prizes of:

  • Winning team: Matt Kuwertz, Tom Lloyd, Ian Burr and Tony Burchette
    Nearest the pin: Grant McGuff
Within the ring: Ian Burr and Julian Walton
Nearest the pin in two: Peter Lynam
    Longest drive: Sandy Case
Renascent Challenge: Andy Lord, Peter Lynam, Grant McGuff and Phil Lancaster

Louise de Winter, TUF Chief Executive, said “What a fantastic day and a great way to raise money for The Urology Foundation. Hearing the personal stories from the golf committee on why they helped organise the event was very moving. They really bought home why TUF exists and why we do what we do.

“None of work would be possible without the generosity of our supporters. So for all the golfers today I would like to say thank you, as well as a special mention to Renascent for sponsoring the event helping to ensure the day could raise even more.”

Simon, a founding partner of Renascent, was diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago and learnt about The Urology Foundation through friend Martin, a TUF supporter and kidney cancer survivor.

“Following my prostate cancer diagnosis, I saw first-hand the difference charities like The Urology Foundation make to patient care. TUF invest in much needed research and training ensuring that their impact will be felt where it is needed most – in the treatment and care we receive from our urologists and nurses.

“Renascent chose to partner with TUF to help increase funding of vital research and the awareness of TUF in its work to end the suffering caused by urology diseases. As a keen golfer the TUF Golf Day was the perfect opportunity to help raise money for the charity.”

As a charity, The Urology Foundation rely on donations and fundraising events to continue with our vital work. We receives no government funding which is why the support of our donors and partners is so important to us.

Thank you to all the golfers and TUF supporters for joining TUF’s very first golf day. Thank you to Waud Wine Club, Eurostar, David Nicol and golf clubs Royal Ashdown, Manor House and Betchworth for donating auction prizes. Thank you to our headline event sponsor Renascent. Together you have raised over £16,000 for urology research and cutting-edge training for urologists and nurse
