Mary Garthwaite

Mary was formerly a Consultant Urological Surgeon specialising in neurourology and functional and reconstructive urological surgery.

Having gained a PhD in the Molecular Biology of the Bladder in Health and Disease she developed a career long interest and specialist expertise in the management of benign, chronic disorders of the bladder, including male and female incontinence, bladder pain syndrome (BPS) and urinary tract infection. She served on the committee of the British Association of Urologists Section of Female, Functional, Neurological and Urodynamic Urology until stepping back from clinical urology in 2019.

“From the perspective of both a medical professional and a patient I believe that high quality research, cutting-edge clinical skills and clear communication are fundamental to the delivery of successful healthcare. TUF already has an outstanding track record in supporting high quality urological research, skills training and patient education, but we are ambitious to do more. TUF is uniquely positioned as the only charity concerned with advancing care across the entire spectrum of urological disease. We work to support both the patient and the healthcare professionals delivering their care, thereby aiming to improve outcomes, end suffering and save lives. It will be an immense privilege to help guide TUF in its ongoing quest to reach further and achieve even more.”
