Why take part?

We’re supporting a national project to find the top 10 unanswered questions about chronic and recurrent UTI. This will help funders and researchers know what research is most important to the people affected by either chronic or recurrent UTIs – and the clinicians and others who care for them. The project will result in a Top 10 list of research questions that can be used to fund new research.

This survey forms an important part of our research.

Who should take part?

We want to hear from:
  • Adults and children who live with or have experienced chronic or recurrent UTI
  • Carers of adults and/or children with chronic or recurrent UTI
  • Healthcare professionals who diagnose and treat those with chronic or recurrent UTI.

Why this research matters

UTIs affect millions of people across the UK and can become persistent, painful, and debilitating. Despite this, significant gaps remain in research on chronic and recurrent UTIs.

This process follows the trusted JLA method, which brings together lived experience and clinical expertise to highlight the most urgent areas for research.

As many as half of all women will experience a UTI at some point in their life with 20 to 30% of these becoming recurrent or chronic. There’s so much we still don’t know. Your input will guide future research to address the issues that matter most to those in the UK. The survey is quick to complete, and every response counts.

More about this project

This project is being funded by AMR Action UK (previously Antibiotic Research UK) and run in partnership with The Urology Foundation and Bladder Health UK. The project is being overseen by a steering group made up of people who live with chronic and recurrent UTI and healthcare professionals. To achieve our aim, we have partnered with the James Lind Alliance (JLA), a respected organisation that facilitates patient and clinician collaboration to guide research priorities, to complete a Priority Setting Partnership (PSP). You can read more about the JLA for chronic and recurrent UTI HERE.
