National Cancer Plan

The Urology Foundation welcomes the much-anticipated publication of the National Cancer Plan for England.

The Urology Foundation is particularly pleased to see a specific focus on tackling rare and less common cancers, which we know are too often overlooked. The government is clear that the only way it can deliver on the ambitions set out in the plan is to transform outcomes in rare and less common cancers.

The plan sets out a number of areas that are welcome – including a move to better more granular data, encouraging world class research and putting patients at the heart of their care.

As a charity, we were pleased to feed into the development of this Plan and ensure the voices of our community helped shape its priorities. However, the success of the plan will depend on proper funding, adequate workforce capacity, and robust implementation. The NHS is under more strain than ever, and we know that healthcare professionals are working tirelessly within severely stretched resources.

The Urology Foundation remains committed to playing our part in supporting implementation and ensuring today’s commitments translate into real improvements for people affected by cancer.
